Welcome to the NASA HUNCH Project!
HUNCH stands for: High School Students United With NASA To Create Hardware. Students at Lakewood High School have been participating in the NASA HUNCH Project since the 2009-10 school year. Our first project was to design a personal plant chamber for astronauts on the ISS. The Hydrofuge Project was created when a need was communicated to us by NASA. That need was two fold.
1. Growing food in space for long term space travel (ex. Mars)
2. Psychological health of Astronauts for long term space travel.
The Hydrofuge was launched to the ISS in the spring of 2015 aboard SpaceX 6 and spent 30 days being tested in space. Students start in ITE and may continue with HUNCH throughout their entire high school career! Students are currently working on the next set of projects that may take them to Mars and beyond! More to come.......
