Graduation Requirements

WHY NEW GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS?

COLORADO, AND JEFFCO PUBLIC SCHOOLS, ARE COMMITTED TO EDUCATING STUDENTS SO THEY ENTER THE WORKFORCE WITH IN-DEMAND SKILLS THAT MEET BUSINESS, INDUSTRY, AND HIGHER EDUCATION STANDARDS. IN COLORADO, AND THE UNITED STATES, JOBS THAT REQUIRE TRAINING BEYOND HIGH SCHOOL ARE GROWING THREE TIMES AS FAST AS THOSE THAT DON'T REQUIRE TRAINING (CDE).

WHAT'S IN IT FOR STUDENTS AND SCHOOLS?

In addition to the required credit hours that show students have studied, practiced, and have an understanding of required subjects, the demonstration of English and math knowledge shows that students know how to apply and use what they have learned and are prepared to pursue their interests after high school. These demonstrations reflect Colorado Academic Standards as well as Essential Skills. This shift also aims to help districts and schools think in new and creative ways about what time and place mean in the school setting.

WHAT ARE THE GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS?

Jeffco Public Schools has adopted the State of Colorado Graduation Guidelines in its entirety: Jeffco Public Schools Board Adopted Graduation Requirements

Jeffco students graduating in and after 2021 must complete a minimum of 23 credits in required courses and, through approved knowledge demonstration options, show they know how to apply and use what they have learned in English and math and are prepared to pursue career and college interests after high school. Please see the flyer below to explore these in more detail.
