This is the image for the news article titled Boy's Varsity BasketballLakewood and Bear Creek are two high schools that have been known to be rivals for a long time. On January 18, there was a varsity boys’ basketball game against the Bears, and it was no surprise that there were upwards of 500 attendants in the Lakewood gymnasium. The student section was packed, and members of the crowd say that there were so many people that they could hardly stand. Even the visitors' side was so full that they were forced to fill the upper section of the bleachers. Between ref calls, cheerleaders, and the rowdy crowds of the Tigers and the Bears, there wasn't a single moment of silence during the game.

If there was one word to describe the night, it would be “intense.” Bear Creek was in the lead throughout the first quarter, but our Lakewood Tigers were able to rise to the challenge, keeping the score incredibly close throughout the remainder of the game. Tensions were high as the game went into overtime, however, the Tigers were able to win in the last minute, bringing the score to 39-34. As soon as the game was won, the crowd flooded the court and beg+an singing the Lakewood fight song. Morale was high throughout the rest of the night.

After losing to Bear Creek in football, this win brought the student population together. Mike Hughes, the Lakewood athletic director, wrote on twitter, “It was a tight game the entire way and a real gutty win for our boys. Well done coaches and players.”
