From the Principal's Desk

Dear Lakewood Families and Students,

The first week of school is nearly complete, and so I’d like to take this opportunity to again thank you for your patience with our school staff in regards to our continued work on both the hybrid and remote schedules.
Just a quick reminder that students will be working asynchronously tomorrow and should connect with their assignments for the day through their GoogleClassrooms. Assignments/attendance for students will be due by 2:30 p.m. so that teachers can accurately take attendance.

First of all, it has been such a pleasure seeing students engage in learning once again. Although in the remote environment, it is clear that both teachers and students are excited to be in class, interacting with one another. The halls are quiet for the time being, but the energy is palpable when we enter various classrooms and see teachers hard at work, delivering lessons to your students in the virtual world.

The administrative team here at Lakewood continues to make adjustments to both the hybrid and remote schedules in order to ensure all families are satisfied as much as possible based on the survey option they chose for learning for the 2020-2021 school year. We began outlining our remote learning option 4 weeks ago, prior to receiving all of the incoming remote requests. Since that time we have encountered many additional requests for 100% remote learning. As such, we currently don’t have the staffing available in our remote school. Over the weekend we will be reallocating some of our staffing from the hybrid school to the remote school, which may unfortunately affect some student and teacher schedules. We recognize that these times call upon individuals to work in ways far from what they are familiar with. Please know that we are working hard to honor every family’s and student’s requests as best as we can, but are doing so with limited and stretched resources.

We ask that you encourage your student to check their schedule Sunday evening after 5:00 p.m. to determine if any changes have been made. If a student sees that changes have been made to their schedules, they should visit their new teacher’s websites and join their Google Classroom with the course codes. Teachers are aware of these changes, so please know that they will be gracious and adjust accordingly to meet students where they are at. We don’t anticipate much change in core class content as teachers have aligned their content when working in their Professional Learning Communities, but your student’s teacher may in fact change. We recognize that this is far from ideal and apologize for the adjustments, so thank you for your continued support and patience as we work to finalize both schedules.
