Why Lakewood High School?
Academically, LHS known for its rigorous and diverse curriculum that caters to a wide range of interests and academic needs. Lakewood High School is the home of the largest International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program in Jefferson County (since 1996), that offers one of the best college prep and college credit programs in the world. The school boasts a variety of Advanced Placement (AP) courses, allowing students to challenge themselves and earn college credits while still in high school. This not only prepares them for the academic rigors of college, but also offers a financial benefit by potentially reducing college course loads. We also have a highly successful engineering program that has been part of the NASA HUNCH for over 10 years.
Beyond academics, LHS provides a vibrant and inclusive community where students can thrive socially and personally. The school's wide array of extracurricular activities, including winning sports programs, one of the best performing arts program, art classes and various clubs, ensures that every student can find a niche where they can pursue their interests and passions. International Baccalaureate (IB)
The program, a highly academic, rigorous course of study focuses on conceptual learning, critical thinking and presentation skills (written and oral). It not only prepares students for higher learning in a university setting, but helps students prepare to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world.

What Makes Us Unique
There are approximately 1789 students enrolled for the 2024-2025 academic school year. Our student population comes from a variety of academic, geographic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Our ethnically diverse population breaks down as follows:

- American Indian/Alaska Native: 1%
- Black/African American: 2%
- Hispanic/Latino: 38%
- Asian/Pacific Islander: 4%
- Multiracial: 5%
Because of the International Baccalaureate Program and other unique characteristics, LHS enrolled approximately 59% of our students from outside our attendance area this year.
FUN FACTS:
- LHS has had 41 Boettcher Scholars - Colorado’s highest scholarship recognition.
- Lakewood is perennially ranked by 5280 Magazine and US News and World
Reports as one of the top high schools, in the Denver metro Area. - 2000+ IB Diplomas given.
- The Wind Ensemble has been selected to perform 11 of the past 13 years for the State Concert Band
Festival, and the Bengal Regiment has been a 13-time CBA State Finalist. - The Lakewood Chamber Orchestra was selected to perform at the 2007, 2011, 2014, 2018, and 2023 Colorado Music Educators Association (CMEA) Conference.
- In 2018 the LHS Theatre Company was named one of the top three theatre programs in the country by the
Educational Theatre Association. - The LHS Theatre Company has received multiple Bobby G Awards, Colorado Thespian Mainstage Honors and Theatre Scholarships at Thescon.

Lakewood High School Info Night!
Missed our Open House? Join us for an condensed Info Night at Lakewood High School on January 8th, starting promptly at 6:30 PM with a warm welcome from our Principal, Josh Kraft. School tours will be available afterwards. The event will conclude at 8:00 PM.
