Formative Assessments (
Quizzes) are used as Test predictors; scores will be entered into grade book until Summative (Test) is taken, at which point the Summative (Test) will replace the Formative (Quiz) predictor score. Formal Formative Assessments will be taken at the end of every other week.

Formative Tasks may be corrected, for point recovery, but Summative Assessments may not.

Excused absences: Students are expected to contact teacher as soon as possible, and complete given items within one class period of returning or as determined by teacher. Assignments from Excused Absences will be marked missing until student submits the items that were missed, then it will either be scored as "Turned In" and "Exempt" if it was graded on participation; or graded accordingly, for full credit, if it was graded on performance. Credit can be received if the missed amount of time has been used to learn the missed content and demonstrate learning of content, during student off-hours, with the teacher or in Tutoring Center. Students may receive alternative assignments. If items are requested or submitted after extended date, items will be scored and marked down 10% for first excused absence and -20% thereafter. Proper excusal is important. Unexcused absences Unexcused absence are not tolerated. "According to Board Policy, unexcused absences will subject the student to appropriate consequences, including school sanctions or and/or the imposition of academic sanctions for classes missed. Persistent unexcused absenteeism may result in a failing grade." Students are expected to contact teacher and (not or) access missed material on website as soon as possible, and complete items within one class period of returning or as determined by teacher. 
Assignments from Unexcused Absences will be marked "missing" until student submits the items that were missed. If it was graded on performance, then it will be scored and marked down 10% for first unexcused absences and -20% thereafter. If items were graded on participation, then students will receive zero points until the missed amount of time has been used to learn the missed content and demonstrate learning of content, during student off-hours, with the teacher or in Tutoring Center. 
Students will not receive credit for assignments if make up time has not been completed within the following week of the absence. 


Tardiness: Scores of learning tasks from participation will be pro-rated according to the percentage of class that was missed, with a minimum of 10% loss. Points can be recovered if the 
amount of time that has been used to learn the missed content and demonstrate learning of content, during student off-hours, with the teacher or in Tutoring Center, 
before the following class of the tardy. 
 


Late Work: Late items from when students are present in class, will be marked as missing until submitted, where it will be changed to "Turned In" until graded.  Late work will be reduced by 10% per day if items are time sensitive. Grading of Late Submissions are prioritized behind On-Time submissions.

Electronic Devices (Cell Phones and Headphones)
All electronic devices that used to enhance learning tasks, used openly, used with permission, during approved times are welcomed and encouraged. All items distracting from learning, used secretively, during unapproved times are prohibited.  
Cell phones and headphones are expected to be stored away and out of site 
before entering the classroom
,
unless approved and being used directly for the learning task.
 Non-compliance will result in the need to store the cell phone publicly, during the class, for the next 5 classes. 
 
Scores of 
Participation in Formative Learning Tasks
 will be reduced by 50% per infraction. 

 
Hall Use: Hall use is expected to be used for going to the closest bathroom or drinking fountain. To keep track of movement, leave notebook in Hall Pass Basket and take Hall Pass. Hall use is expected to take less than 5 minutes, unless there are specific circumstances. Hall use will be recorded. Hall use abuse will result in a deductions
from scores based on participation in learning tasks.

Problematic Behaviors: Problematic Behaviors, that violate the 5 Traits for Success, distracts or disrupts students, teachers or the individual that must be specifically addressed by the teacher will be result in the score of Participation in Formative Learning Tasks to be reduced by 50% per infraction per day, after the first warning. A private conversation will be held after problematic behaviors, during which time a behavior plan will be put in place. The behavior plan includes: a warning, moving seats, calling home, administrative conference. 

Notes: Daily notes are collected and scored 10 points per day as an evidence of participation in 
Formative Learning Tasks
Incomplete notes are marked as such and not scored until resubmitted, they must be completed before test dates and graded after on time
submissions
.
Notes are compiled and organized in a 3-ring and submitted on the day of the test and scored for completeness and organization. 


Tests and Projects: Tests and Projects are prorated to 15 points per day that material was studied and used as evidence of 
Performance on Summative Assessments of Learning Targets.

Marine Fish Tank Grade: All Marine Bio students are expected to own a tropical freshwater community fish. Students are graded on participation in caring for their group fish tank, not the survival of the fish. There will be no experimentation or purposeful harm done to the fish. Multiple unexcused absences is negligent and will result in a 0% fish tank grade score.

Marine Field Trip to Pet Store:
Marine Biology will go to PetsMart at 1st and Wadsworth to purchase fish. No other classes will be missed. Students will purchase their own fish, for their group's fish tank. Students are not required to purchase a fish from this store or at this time. No buss is provided, students may carpool. Signed permission is required. The field trip is not mandatory. Students are not allowed to participate if they have multiple unexcused absences.

Marine Biology Field Trip to Downtown Aquarium:
students will go to the Downtown Aquarium. Other classes will be missed. No buss is provided, students may carpool. The field trip is not mandatory. Signed permission is required. The fee is covered by the Class Fee. Students are not allowed to participate if they have multiple unexcused absences.
